Personal growth is one of the most discussed topics these days. Almost everyone wants to become a better person, a better version of themselves, which is really great. Our world needs more ambitious and productive people to change for the better

1.     Denial

Denial is the first red flag that shows you that you must change your attitude. Sometimes, when everything seems to go against us, it is us that have to change and not everyone or everything else.

Most people don’t realize that they are in denial, not even when everyone around them suggests that change is absolutely necessary.

All you have to do is observe your negative behavior. Only then you’ll be able to make the first step towards personal growth.

2.    Irresponsibility

A big barrier that stays in our way towards personal development is not taking responsibility for our actions. You can’t be better if you keep blaming others for your deeds. You need to act like a grownup and take responsibility for your mistakes.

If you don’t assume the consequences of your own actions, you’ll never manage to stop a chaotic lifestyle from happening. All you have to do is accept that you simply weren’t in a good place, that it was your fault, and that you may have slightly contributed to the result you hate right now. Try to be more and more responsible, little by little.

3.    Negative Attitude

Negativism is really sick behavior. The more negative you are the more negativism you attract in your life. Therefore, of course, you might become depressive and anxious. You get what you give, or you reap what you sow. Simple as that.

You don’t have to turn into an optimistic person suddenly. You need some time to heal. But one or two kind gestures to someone would be a great start to become a better version of yourself. No one is born bad or negative, it is all a matter of choice.

4.    Lack of Skills

Sometimes, when we really want to do something and we can’t manage to do it because of the lack of skills, we enter a negative loop. This is the easiest way, isn’t it? It’s harder to learn a new skill than blame others for your lack of experience. All you have to do is look for help in the right place.

5.    Lack of Motivation

Motivation is a limited resource, yet it can be found even in the darkest places. All you have to do is ask yourself what really motivates you – Is it money? Fun? Status? Accomplishments.

Find something that motivates you even just a little and create a rewarding system – “For cleaning up the kitchen I reward myself with one TV show.”

6.    Lack of Discipline

Learning to be a disciplined person must be one of the hardest things in life. But unless you learn to properly manage your time and attention, you’ll never be able to accomplish your goals. You can’t live in total chaos and reach personal growth. Discipline and personal growth are complementary.

7.    Lack of Goals

Same old story. Most of us set one big goal and expect to reach it without following at least a roadmap, and without implementing the proper actions.

We pay so much attention to the destination and so little to the journey. If you want to improve yourself in the long term, you must set a clear road towards it by establishing short-term goals and focusing on each individually. There’s no other way.


In today’s world, everything comes with a price. But in some matters, such as personal growth, the price we have to pay is totally worth it. Life is not always rainbows and butterflies.
