six healthy habits

We all want to live healthier lives, but unfortunately, it’s not always easy to find the time. Between work, chores, and family, there just aren’t enough hours in the day sometimes. As a result, we end up taking shortcuts and developing unhealthy habits. If you’d like to change that, there are six healthy habits you should consider adding to your life. Adding the following six healthy habits will help to transform your health in a wide variety of ways and keep you happy and healthy for a long time to come.

A Better Diet

One of the first things you should start with is a better diet. Our diets are typically the first things to go south when we are leading busy lives. But our diets play an important role in not only our long term health, but our day-to-day quality of life, so it’s vital that you pay attention to what you eat.

Start by keeping track of what it is you currently eat. Track the number of calories, sodium, and sugar you are consuming on an average day. Then see where this stacks up with the recommended health guidelines. If your diet is not where it should be, consider cutting back on your portions or swapping out your meals for a healthier choice. It will be difficult at first, but the longer you go on a healthy diet, the easier it will become.

Regular Doctor and Dentist Visits

Even if you eat right, things could go wrong. The best thing you can do for your health is schedule regular checkups with a trusted doctor. They can catch problems in advance and provide you with suggestions on how to live a healthier lifestyle.

When you schedule a visit to the doctor, don’t forget to include a trip to the dentist. Oral health is just as important, so it shouldn’t be overlooked. Not only will this help with your overall health, but it can give you a healthier smile. And, according to Winning Smiles from Fontana, CA, a healthy smile “makes everything easier, from small moments like enjoying a favorite meal to the bigger moments, like meeting new people.”

Meditation

Do you find yourself dealing with a lot of stress? Do you think it’s having a negative impact on your quality of life or your health? If so, consider starting a meditation habit. Meditation is the practice of clearing your mind and relaxing your body. It’s easy to start a meditation habit and the benefits are numerous. Exercise More Regularly

Of course, no healthy lifestyle would be complete without exercising more. Even if you eat right and visit the doctor, without regular exercise, you’re likely to experience health problems. You don’t need to join a gym if that’s not your thing – you can do something as simple as go for a walk each day or start a running habit. Find an activity that you enjoy, as this will make it more likely that you’ll do it. Then keep up a regular schedule of exercising, not allowing yourself to go more than a few days without a good workout.

Start Reading and Writing

While exercise is good for your body, reading and writing is good for your mind. Reading helps us to relax and learn new things, keeping our brains active. Writing on the other hand allows us to clear our brains of extra thoughts. If you find that you’re not reading as much as you like, try finding little pockets throughout the day to sneak in a book. This could be on a train, while you’re working out, or while you’re waiting for dinner to cook.

As for writing, consider starting a journal. Write it in every morning or every night (or both), jotting down whatever comes to mind. Some people like more structure when they write, so consider this journaling template to get you started.

Socialize More

Lastly, don’t do all of the above things alone. Humans are social creatures, and we need to be around other people. Make time for friends and family, no matter how busy you are. If you don’t have the time for going out to parties, invite your friends to join with you on one of your new habits. This will not only allow you to socialize, but you’ll have someone to help motivate you.

Keep at It

If you can add the six healthy habits above to your life, you should notice a great change in the quality of your life. You’ll have more energy, feel better about yourself, and have less stress in your life. It’ll take some time, but if you keep at it, there’s no reason you can’t turn them all into lifelong habits going forward.
