How to Be More Productive: 5 Relaxation Techniques that Help to Reduce Stress

Does the stress in your life make it difficult to be productive? It is time to take action. While stress obviously can’t be completely eliminated, there are relaxation techniques that can help you to enjoy life without the shadow of stress. Figuring out how to be more productive and having a positive mindset are the key actions  for reducing stress. To help you find the path that leads to a positive attitude, we’ve put together a list of effective relaxation techniques that are known stress reducers.

  1. Just Relax

While simply relaxing seems the opposite of being productive, it can actually bring a much-needed sense of renewal.  Recent studies have shown that if you work in 90-minute intervals with breaks in between, you will be less stressed with a renewed energy, leading to higher productivity.

  1. Exercise

Getting up and physically moving your body is a known stress reliever.  Also, implementing a rhythmic exercise routine such as walking, running, swimming, and even dancing can be a big help when it comes to reducing life’s stresses. Exercise may sound more exhausting than soothing. But a little exercise to increase your heart rate actually provides an energy boost. Your body will releases endorphins to give you energy and clarity.

  1. Deep Breathing and Meditation

Some great relaxation exercises that can be done just about anywhere include deep breathing and mindful meditation. Shallow breathing can cause tension and anxiety, but breathing deeply allows for maximum intake of fresh air, reducing anxiousness. Most meditation techniques include focusing on a single repetitive act.  Perhaps you can focus on breathing in and out, repeating empowering phrases, or taking in your surroundings without judgment.

  1. Hydrotherapy

Submersing yourself in a pool of water can help to reduce stress in a variety of ways, and certainly both physically and mentally. Hydrotherapy has been used for years to treat ailments and diseases that keep you from feeling your best. Aquatic or hydrotherapy helps relax and soothe your mind as well as strengthen weak muscles and loosen stiff joints.

  1. Visualization

Visualization, another form of meditation, involves imagining your happy place. Thinking of a scene that brings you joy also provides an opportunity to let go of the tension and stress that has you at a standstill. Playing soothing music or even a soundtrack of ocean waves or the pitter patter of rain can help you to more easily find your image and stay connected to it.

Taking Care of Yourself

While parking on the couch and watching a TV show sounds like the easier route, it doesn’t necessarily reduce stress. Following any of the stress management tips and relaxation exercises above will be far more effective when it comes to reducing stress. You will feel better AND be more productive.
